Do I need baby alpaca for it not to itch?
Baby alpaca settles it: prickle comes from coarse fibers above roughly 30 microns, and baby alpaca averages about 21.5, so almost no fibers are coarse enough to prickle — and there's no lanolin, wool's other irritant. Coarser alpaca grades exist in the market, which is why some alpaca garments itch; each product page here states its grade.
Is an alpaca sweater warm enough for winter?
Yes. Alpaca insulates better than sheep's wool at the same weight, and it wicks moisture instead of soaking it up. A baby alpaca crew under a shell handles real winter; on its own it covers fall through spring.
How does alpaca compare to merino for men?
Merino is lighter and cheaper; alpaca is warmer, softer at this grade, and far more durable. Merino's short fibers pill visibly within a season of regular wear — alpaca's long fibers don't work loose, so the sweater still looks new years in.
How do I wash it?
