Alpaca ~ Did you know...?
Alpaca is one of the most thermal natural fibers on earth. It has deep within its structure air pockets, and when spun into yarn, more are created.
So?
Well air that is trapped within the fibers heat up as a result of body temperature and serve as natural insulation if you will.
Because alpaca is water repellent, moisture that is caused by the body is wicked away from your skin and the natural heating causes that moisture to evaporate. This keeps you warm not wet. When you get wet, the way cotton holds onto moisture, it actually chills the skin. That is why when your socks get wet, your feet get cold. Works the same in gloves, hats, socks, sweaters, blankets... you get it! With alpaca you will be comfortable!
Alpaca is also very durable. You've seen the commercial about hair, human hair, right? The one that shows what conditioner does? Well, alpaca is smooth, its like hair after conditioner. That gives each tiny strand of fiber the ability to not bind or barb onto the others, it stays smooth (reduced pills) and it is incredibly strong, over 300 times that of sheep's wool. Blankets made from alpaca have been found several hundred years old and still in good condition.
We love pure alpaca, not just because we sell it, but because it is a quality fiber that will out perform that of others.
Blends with acrylic dilute your alpaca. Look for 100% alpaca or blends with other natural fibers for the best alpaca!
